December 1st 2007
We are experimenting with a new marketing and business strategy. Instead of spending tons of money on print and radio ads, I've decided to reduce the price of a basic massage dramatically.
I have to sell them in blocks (kind of like BJ's).They are only $50 for a full hour massage by a licensed massage therapist. I have felt for a long time that massage and bodywork are not just a luxury, but part of a healthy life. To prove it I'm trying to make massage as affordable as I can.
The Golden Ticket is 10 massages for $500. The ticket is actually a packet of vouchers each worth a full hour massage, or $50 toward any other service we offer at Bodywork Professionals. Each voucher can be given away or used by the person who bought it. So you could buy a ticket and give 5 away and keep 5 for yourself to get sessions when you need them, or keep them all and use them once a month.
A question I get all the time is "Do you take insurance?". The answer is no, but I'm able to do things like this because I don't take insurance. Being outside the insurance system offers tons of flexibility for a small business like myself to do creative and innovative things, while keeping our prices down. Because this is a free market and you can go to anybody out there, we have to be good at what we do to stay in business. Let me tell you, we are excellent at what we do. I have a team of people who have made bodywork their career, and you'll appreciate that after you visit us. Beside, if your insurance covered massage, your insurance would just cost more. You'd by paying for it one way or another. As it stands, you get to decide where to take your business, and people like me are competing for you.One difference in our work is we are a teaching business. Our therapist work together to share knowledge and techniques with each other. It's not uncommon to have a session with me (Nick) and to be asked if it's aright for another therapist to observe or even help. It's always the clients choice to have a 4 handed session, but they often agree, and so far its been to their benefit. In this why I'm able to share some of the things I've learned from 11 years of practice.
So tell your friends, family, and people you like about the Golden Ticket so we can keep our prices down.
Keep checking back as we have some more cool things on the horizon. If you have any feedback or ideas for us shoot us an email with the ling at the bottom of this page.

April 2008
From the labs and minds of Bodywork Professionals comes our newest concept. The Massage Armada.
Our charitable arm works with a local elder care facility to provide free chair massage to it's guests. To make it fun we came up with the idea of a massage armada, or fleet of massage therapist that go to them and do our chair work.
A next logical step is to do so in an office enviroment. For the next six months we are going to offer a kick ass deal. Ask you boss to bring in the Massage Armada for 3 hour at a total of $100. Each therapist can work on about 20 people during that time. Have more than 20 in your office.... no problem we send in more of the Armada. Tell your boss to show the staff how much they are appreciated and how cool they will be by doing the trendy new in office chair massage.
At $100 for 3 hours it's worth a try. We are still chewing on some of the details, and as soon as the logo and new website are done you'll be hearing more about it.

t's been a really busy time for us so far. The new location is working out really well, and we have some new things coming along that I think are going to be really cool.
First off, we are sponsoring the Edwood film festival in Albany http://www.ewfilm.com
This should be a really fun event, and to coincide we are producing a short video that will be available on Myspace, and Youtube.com. Depending on how things go I may even get it posted here.
Third I finally got the Harmonic Wave Transducer off the ground. For those of you who are new to use, this has just been a fun project to fiddle with. I have mounted 3 Bass Shakers (kind of like a speaker but it produces a vibration, Disney uses them under the seats to make rides more interesting) under my table. Then a run 2 overlapping frequencies from my laptop that produce a wave. I can also play music and the table acts like a big speaker and you can really feel it.
My theory is the wave will soften the connective tissue to make it easier for me to work on. I could be full of shit, but I’m having fun.
More soon
